Villaricos, Almeria

Home of the silver mines...

Villaricos is a small fishing village close to Garrucha and Mojacar in the Spanish region of Almeria. The town's rich history dates back to the Cartegenans and Hannibal, whose campaigns in Europe are said to have been financed from the local silver mines. Over the last twenty years the village has been carefully developed from having no proper roads or running water, to the well kept, traditional and attractive village you can see today. Sitting between hills and the Mediterranean, it provides a quiet and relaxing setting. Villaricos is an un-spoilt and relaxed fishing village near Mojacar, Almeria, a region known for having the finest climate in Spain. Ideally located within easy reach of excellent golf courses, sandy beaches and a variety of Spanish towns.

Villaricos is a wonderful holiday destination. A long pebble beach runs between the two harbours in the village, forming a picturesque backdrop to the promenade. On the south side of Villaricos is a charming sandy beach in a small bay. One of the locals best kept secrets, it's never too crowded and has a friendly beach bar serving drinks, ice creams and excellent food. For those of us who like golf, the Almeria region of Spain is rapidly becoming a popular destination. Fortunately, Villaricos is within easy reach of two excellent courses...· Marina Golf course, popular and good value - just outside of Mojacar and· Desert Springs, a sensational new course only 5-10 minutes drive from Villaricos.
